this is totally bullshit. the two greatest match (in terms of influence and quality of the music) should have been:
beatles vs velvet underground (the two sides of pop music)
and
david bowie vs prince (greatest entertainers of all time).
Nobody cared about johnny cash until he died, an I like his music.. depeche mode are great but not deserve to be that high. nin are cool but someway they fell really out of place.
pink floyd are pink floyd, and old and interesting friend to fall asleep while he is talking about is childhood. they were obsolete since 1979.

zartan, I really tried VU and Nico many times as well as White Light/White Heat. WL/WH contains some track without music - like RH’s Fitter happier on OKC.
But even tracks with melodies are hardly listenable.
The melody and vocals on Venus In Fur or I’m waiting For The Man or any other track are horrible.
Reed and Nico have no vioce and melodies are primitive.

I don’t love DM, but I can understand how some might. Nobody would ever call me a hipster from looking at me, and yet I like some stuff that some would call indie, and some most would not.
The reason I pick on you is that you are…well, you’re probably not racist, but you make me feel the way I feel about racists. One counterexample is all we need to invalidate most of the prejudces you’ve lain out, but you’re not hearing it, and it makes me sad for you.
Do you really think it’s impossible for someone to like a so-called indie record on its own merit? Have you never liked a song without knowing who it was and asked someone in the room “who is that?” What if that happened to you with an indie song? Have major labels never rejected someone they shouldn’t have rejected? What do you mean by tuneless? If we’re going by the dictionary, can you honestly say that indie music is devoid of melody and proficient musicianship, and there’s not a good songwriter to be found? Because that’s what the dictionary says it means. Or is it more likely that most music is crap, indie included, and every genre and economic level of the industry is converselt capable of doing something spectacular?
The vast majority of people who like so-called indie music are not rejecting well-known bands, but supplementing their music diet with some indie bands while maintaining their like for some bands that have justifiably gone multiplatinum. If you have so much faith in the ability of capitalism to put out the music that’s best for everybody, you have to respect that market forces are allowing a lot of the bands you hate to make a living, and sometimes a good living.
I don’t know a single soul that automatically likes the things that pitchfork likes. In fact, because you seem automatically opposed to anything they review favorably, I maintain that you, more than me, are letting Pitchfork dictate your music taste.
You HAVE to answer some of these questions to be a credible debater here, because otherwise, your fallacies are going undefended, and you’re smacked.
